Exclusive Interview – KZ Designs
Exclusive Interview - KZ Designs - KARINA ZABIHI

Interior Design Shop continues his journey finding the Best Interior Design Studios in the world, and today we share with you an exclusive interview with Karina Zabihi from KZ Designs.

How and why did you get into the interior design Industry?

I have loved design and architecture since I was 15 years old. However, I finally set up my own company in 1997 after having worked in film production for a few years.

How would you describe your style? Do you have a signature touch?

Indeed. My design aesthetic is very clean and minimal, but always with a little surprise or quirky element.

Is there anything exciting that you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about? Any new projects?

I have a major project in Hong Kong, which is a design space at PMQ. Please see http://karolifestyle.kzdesigns.com for more information.

What do you love about being a designer?

I love working with spaces and with creating concepts for living. I like being able to offer a client something they didn’t know they wanted!

Which major international events do you attend to get all the latest novelties?

A lot of my inspiration is from natural  forms and materials, from art and sculpture and landscaping. I follow new trends in architecture and, of course, some of the major salons in Milan and Paris

Which colors, textures and techniques do you prefer in furniture design?

I love using white. It is my signature. I am launching a new collection of white paints shortly. There are so many shades and nuances with white. I like the juxtaposition of rough and smooth textures, pairing materials that might, on first glance, not be natural bed fellows – concrete with velvet, for example

Where do you work on your designs and projects?

Anywhere and everywhere!

Do you discuss or exchange ideas with other designers?

More so with architects than interior designers  and very often with artists and  furniture designers

What is your philosophy on design and life?

Nature constantly inspires me – I never cease to marvel over the raw beauty  of mountains and  deserts, light at different times of the day and we do need to respect it more. For me, it’s all about a quiet elegance and respecting the space for what it is.
